History

W.I.R.E.S. was established in 1985 as a non-profit corporation for the purpose of having an independent organization own and manage local amateur radio repeaters, free from the influence or shifting change in politics of any clubs or organizations.  This has helped maintain the stability and dependability of the region’s most active and reliable repeater system.

W.I.R.E.S. is a
not-for-profit
501(c)(3)
organization.
Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

WIRES Repeaters PL Tone

All three of the WI9RES repeaters use the CTCSS/PL tone of 131.8 Hz. This is to comply with guidelines from the Indiana Repeater Council (IRC). They have redrawn the boundaries that define the geographical "areas" in the state for repeater coordination. Different PL tones are assigned to each area to assist in avoiding co-channel interference.

Our repeaters in Tippecanoe and Clinton counties are now in the Northwest area. The 88.5 Hz PL we formerly used is assigned to the West Central area, and repeaters in the Northwest are assigned either 173.8 or 131.8 Hz.

We use 131.8 Hz for all of the WI9RES repeaters.

Please program your radios accordingly, and help others who may find that task a bit challenging. We understand this is not a trivial change. However, we consider it necessary to continue to operate our repeaters according to accepted, community standards, and to honor the amateur code and follow good operating practices.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. WIRES plans to continue serving the amateur community by providing quality infrastructure with these repeaters. Thanks.
